Meet Andy Williams -the first of possibly 3 new riders to arrive Portland, Oregon June 1.

Andy is from Auckland, New Zealand and a sprint specialist, he has represented New Zealand at the Oceanic Games and at World Cups,. I had a moment to sit down with Andy an asked him some questions-

Rubicon-ORBEA -Why are you coming to Portland of all places?

AW -I’m coming to Portland to get high intensity track training and racing over the New Zealand winter in order to be in the condition to challenge for a place in the New Zealand's high performance program for 2011.

Rubicon-ORBEA -What are your goals for the future?

AW -I want to be the fastest bike rider I can be and qualify for the 2012 Olympics, and to take every opportunity I gain and make the most of everything that comes my way.

Rubicon-ORBEA -What do you spend your time doing in the off season?

AW -This year I’ve been working 50-70 hours a week in an office. Before that it was studying, so more of the same just unpaid and in a library. Off the bike, I spend the off season doing all the fun base training in the gym and on the road. In terms of fun stuff - I enjoy the social activity with friends, golf and table tennis.
